Sunday musings

This weekend has been a good one so far.

Yesterday we went down to Festival Beach on Town lake in Austin, to see the annual Dragon Race held by the Asian American Cultural Center. We didn't actually see that many of the races as we arrived after the first round and just missed seeing the Freescale team, but we did meet up with some of Gordon colleagues, who were doing a BBQ. Part of the program were displays of Asian dancing by the many groups who live in Austin and Texas. I only got a couple pics as we spent most of our time at the BBQ.

Today I finally finished the beaded doll I have created for my sister in Canberra which you can see at my art blog and now I am going to put away my bead for a week or two, to concentrate on the other projects I have going at the moment.

My daughter called last night and said she had an interview with one of her Professors to get a personal recommendation for a masters course after the summer. Not only did she get a personal recommendation but he has said he wants her to do his masters course plus work for him on a research project during the summer.

I am so pleased for her as she has been worrying her head off about what is happening after the summer once she has finished her degree. As I said she had already applied for a masters course but she also had several other options up her sleeve if things didn't pan out the way she wanted. One of them was moving to Australia for a year, doing an internship on environmental projects. I'm kinda of pleased she is not moving away as once she finishes her masters she could be going anywhere in the world. I'm not ready for her to go away yet. 22 yrs seemed a long time when she was born but really its like a blink of an eye.

Elisabeth really does seemed to have become so much more focus in the last 6 months. Before that she seemed have a negativity about her which really wasn't normal for her. However she now seems to know the direction she want to go work wise. As she is more focus, she is slimmer and healthier than I have seen her for a while and she is not worrying about boyfriends, just having a good time. Now she just needs to work on the financial side of her personality, unfortunately she has no understanding of finance at all. Bit like me at the age to be honest! Uh? that's me now!

I might actually have

a temporary job soon. I went to the temp agency that my neighbour recommended this morning and they seemed pretty hopeful that they could find me something. Apparently my excel and word skills were excellent but my clerical will do skills were poor. Then she said something which made me laugh (not out loud but inwardly) people who have had supervisory experience often do poorly in this section. Apart from supervising kids for the last 20 odd yrs I have had no supervisory experience in an office at all!

I must admit I am feeling really good at the moment. I am still doing my stitching and loving it. I am just about to complete an art doll which started out for my sister but it might be a bit dark for her, so I will keep it but I have already chosen the fabric for the next doll which will be for her. In addition to that I have just started another online joggles classes called !doodling designs with Susan Sorrell.

Just a small detail from a dream I had last night, I really don't remember it much but this bit. I was in a shower and I look into the mirror I realised with horror that my right eye was missing. I look around frantically for it and realised it was lost completely as it had fallen down the large hole that was the drain.... Well what do you make of that one then...its got me stumped thats for sure!

Middle of the week already

and only one more day until December. So I thought it was about time I bought some christmas cards, so tonight I will sit and write them out. I really should wrap up the presents to Australia as well, especially as I bought most of them at the beginning of November, fully intending to send them off before December arrived. As usual my lacklustre approach to life, has meant I have yet again put it off to the last moment.

The highlight of the week as been an email from one of my favourite artist, Margaret Hunter who had come across my beaded doll which was based on one her drawings. She seemed to like it, thank goodness!

Work still sucks but the women I work with, make up for it. I must admit I really enjoy the company of other people after so many years sitting on my arse all day. I miss the Blanton but hopefully after Christmas and New Year, I might be able to fit in the odd day of volunteering.
