gripes

I have few gripes today really and nothing terribly serious to be honest but I thought I would spew forth with them anyway.

Yesterday, I was looking at the Direct Tv program packages and it really is amazing what a load of tripe there really is on TV. However, my biggest bugbear is the number of religious channels there are available which I am indirectly paying for. I have nothing against people watching these channels but I really don't want to be paying for them as they already get more than enough money from their followers. By the way, they are mostly Christian but I mean I don't want to see any religious channels on TV! Not to say I want to stop the history channel showing their excellent programs on religious subjects as I actually find them interesting in a historial context.

The other channels I don't want to be paying for are the shopping channels. I have no interest what so ever in watching these long running advert because basically that what they are.

So that brings me to another gripe. Saturday afternoons, Sunday afternoons and the main channels have no better programs than infomericals? Then, the tendency of the local channels ie the big 4 networks, to totally disregard an ongoing program because something local has happened or a local telethon with your friendly local newscaster pretending to be a celebrity!

However I did come across a channel accidentally on Sunday, "the Ovation tv network". Its a channel totally devoted to the Arts. Since Sunday I have watched a program on Andy Warhol, Chuck Close, Roy Lichenstein and Degas, little Dancer. I have just noticed they have a program we loved in the UK, "later with Jools Holland". However, don't take much notice of their schedule on the website or your guide as it is frequently incorrect. I tuned in with much anticipation for a program called the British Face and ended up watching an old South Bank show (a uk arts program) on the artist Chuck Close. I enjoyed the program but I would have like to have the one about portrait painting in the UK more I suspect.

Rest in Peace, Miss Ladybird and thank you for the wildflowers, the world would most definitely be a sadder place without them.

I don't watch TV at all anymore. Mainly because it's all in French - which is not a big problem to understand, but oh heck the French suck at making TV shows...and the voice over ones are just plain weird.

I'd give it up if I were you - that sounds utterly dire.

Thanks for your comments Jacqui. Yup, that tangerine fabric is pretty bright - just got to make up the dungarees now!

I can't stand those shopping channels either - I don't know why people are so taken in by them - surely they don't believe all the rubbish they spout forth? I give them a wide berth!
