Can't believe autumn has finally arrived. Its currentlyl only 47f (8.33c) After weeks of above normal tempertures, it's actually going to be below normal for at least this week. Today it only meant to get to about 66f (about 18c) and for the rest of the week it only meant to be in the mid 70's (24c). As I was going to the car, I suddenly wondered if I had a jacket by the door as it so long since I needed to wear one . Long may it continue is all I can say. I love the cooler weather and looking at kilmarnock webcam just made me wish it was raining as well.
Even more amazing is the fact that this is my first post since 11th October. Not that I have manged to stay away from the PC entirely but I have tried to lessen my dependence on the thing. In fact I have been using my studio/laundry room more and managing to do some housework. Weird I know but things do need to change around here.
Anyway here are a couple of my creations.
Both of them are made of Polymer Clay....the kind you bake in the oven. My motivation was the shelf they are hanging from. My husband, Gordon worked hard over the summer to make this. So instead of hiding it under a mountain of coats and jackets, we decided to make it more of a decorative item. Anyway I was relatively pleased with my efforts.
My other preoccupations, are the jewellery classes I am attending on Monday and Wednesday evenings. To be honest, it wont be going far as it would mean getting even more expensive equipment but I may as well continue with for the few weeks that are left. Anyway the easier class is the Wednesday night, wax loss casing class. After only 3 evenings I already have one pendant made.
It is loosely based on a Barbara Hepworth type of sculpture.
Well, most of my week was taken up by that. This weekend flew by, to be honest. On Saturday, I attended my weekly WW's meeting at 9.30 and on the way back I went into Michael's craft store for more polymer clay. As I was there, I spotted a notice saying seasonal stafff required. So with that I filled in a couple of forms and now I am waiting to see if I will get an interview. If I do start work this will be my first real job in 11 yrs. Even then I only worked at the weekends for 3 months before Gordon got fed up with the idea of me working. My last full time job was nearly 19 yrs ago working for the Department of Health and Social Security in the UK.
I can't say I am thrilled by the idea of working but needs must. I can never understand why people say its cheaper to live the States. They obviously don't have teenage kids. From next year we will have the delightful experience of having 2 kids at university until at least 2010. What with that, Health care costs that are soaring, property taxes which are 2.5 times more than we paid in Scotland for less services, more costly groceries for substandard fare and the need for a car per person once your kids get a job, we are most definitively not better off here. Roll on 2011 and once Emily is off on her career, Europe here we come.
Anyway I digress, after the form filling in, I went home and surprise, surprise, my youngest was still in bed! Anyway, I got her up as I was starving and we had planned to go to my favourite fish restaurant, the 'Quality Seafood Market' where they do fish and chips, almost as good as any chippie in the UK. I had been looking forward to it all week and been extra good with my diet so I wasn't going to miss out on that! Later in the day, my eldest daughter came to stay for the night which was great as she hadn't been home since the end of August.

Sounds like you’ve been really busy lately, good luck with the job application.
I know what you mean about how expensive it can get with kids and we’ve got it all to come!
It’s been alot cooler here too, kinda reminds me of England but it’s so refreshing after all the heat we’ve had, only thing annoying me is this windy weather we’ve got seems to have blown more allergies my way..
Have A Great Week!
