Had an enjoyable weekend

Gordon and I actually drove a nearly 400 mile return trip to see a Gaugain exhibition at the Kimball Museum> in Fort Worth. This was exhibition of his early work which I had never really been aware of before. As the work progress you sort of see the direction he would eventually take but then again its still very surprising. I remember seeing an exhibition of the type of work he is known for and being blown away by it. I loved a lot of the work I saw at the Kimball but his later work is still has a magic that is hard to surpass

After the Kimball where we looked at the other work that was currently on show, we went over the Museum of Modern Art for coffee. If it had been free to get in we probably would have looked at the art work. However, I could see from Gordon’s face he was not going to be able to take too much more art work, so we decided to into the centre of Fort Worth. Like most American city centres it wasn’t really worth the effort. It had some interesting building, not all the old building had been obliterated by progress but it was soulless.

After that we went onto the Stockyard areaof Fort Worth. There is an advert for this on TV most of the summer which shows this as a fast paced action sort of place and it looks like it would be an interesting venue to visit. Ok, it not quite summer yet so maybe it there wasn’t the whole shebang going on. However we arrived at about time of the 4pm cattle drive. The cattle were quite obviously doped up or something because to be frank, Zephyr had more spunk in her even in her last days than these long horns. To say it was disappointing was put it mildly.

We had originally planned to eat dinner in Fort Worth but by 4.45 we were done and on the road back. In the end we eat at a local BBQ chain- Pok-e-jo’s. That it turns out was a mistake for me because so much meat just lies in my stomach and ruminates. Add wine to the menu and you (if you are me) end up with horrible heart burn at 3am in the morning.

Yesterday, I did nothing in particular as my stomach was still recovering from the assault. In the evening , for the first time ever, I managed to sit through the whole of the Oscars. It was pretty boring but Jon Stewart was good without being his usual political self. People were criticising him for this but if he had been political he would still have been dammed. Maybe they should hire a robot and get rid of all but 7 of the awards. People are just watching it for the “best picture”, actor, actress, support actor and actress and director anyway. Maybe the best animated movie as well because the Brits do OK in that category. Of course the best part is are the dresses of the glamour babes. Charlize Theron’s outfit must have been the worst ‘A’ list dress by far. My favourites were Keira Knightly, Salma Hayek Uma Thurman and Felicity Huffman. Of course most of them are way too skinny, even Dolly Parton with her over stuffed chest. She looked like a pigeon on stilts.
