this is me killing time. I have read the blogs, boards and anything of interest in the online UK papers and now I am avoiding loading the dishwasher. Boy! I live an exciting life.
Still to find that Christmas spirit unfortunately, will probably arrive on Christmas Eve. I blame in on the lack of rituals we have now. No longer the advent calendar as the kids have outgrown the excitement of counting down the days. No nativity play to attend, dont think they have such things here. Actually, even in Scotland they didn't have a nativity play but they did have a "christmas" affair that involved the whole school and explore the traditions of Christmas in Scotland and around the world. Even TV became part of the ritual in the UK, as all the channels would be advertising their Christmas specials by now. In the US, TV programming comes to a complete stop with several channels showing the same film over and over again for the entire 12 hours or TV marathons of shows like "that's 70 show". Anyway its now 10 days to the big day which I do enjoy I must admit with all its rituals.
We went to a party (of sorts) at the weekend where Gordon and I was both able to drink, thanks to Alan driving us there and back. One of the fews of perks of having a teenage son who is still too young in the States to drink. He can shoot a gun but not drink. He can die for the US but he can't drink. He can get married but he can't drink. He is legally an adult but can't drink. Anyway I digress. The party wasn't really up to much as no one really turned up but someone did bring some Southern Comfort, one of the few spirit drinks I enjoy. Safe to say that made the evening more enjoyable.
Yesterday, Emily and I had an enjoyable afternoon in San Marcos shopping for gifts and seeing my eldest daughter Elisabeth. It didn't start that way as it seemed like Elisabeth was avoiding seeing us but it was simply because she was too hungover to answer her phone. One her friends was returning to Peru for a month, so they sent him off in the correct manner. I don't think she was looking forward to her 5 hour stint of waitressing but at least the town is devoid of students at the moment, so she wouldn't have been busy. She was hoping to come home on Sunday but seems she might be scheduled to work up to Christmas eve. Well, at least we managed to spend 50 mins with her and Emily managed to find a gift for her friend.
